Custom Live-Edge Tables in NW Indiana, Chicagoland & The Midwest: Inside Our Process

Hey guys, Thanos and Vanessa here! If you’ve ever scrolled through Pinterest dreaming of a custom wood furniture piece—like a custom live-edge dining table—but thought the process might be too intimidating, we have great news.

We keep the whole experience personal, collaborative, and completely stress-free. Want to see what we mean? You can view our past table collection by clicking here. Those are all actual custom orders we've brought to life for previous customers!

Whether you are local to us here in Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area, or you need us to ship nationwide, the process is actually incredibly fun!

If you are ready to build the centerpiece of your home, here is a quick look behind the scenes at exactly how our custom woodworking process

1. The Slab Hunt for your Custom Live Edge Table

(From Your Couch or In Person!)

A vertical display rack in a lumber yard showcasing various raw wood slabs labeled by species, including Black Walnut, Cherry, Eastern Red Cedar, Cypress, Catalpa, Red Elm, Black Locust, Honey Locust, Spalted Silver Maple, and American Elm.

After we chat about your overall vision and budget, we head out to our local Midwest lumber yard to hunt for the live-edge slab of your dreams.

You can either tag along with us to see and feel the wood in person, OR the most common way - just stay in your sweatpants from the comfort of your home! We’d be more than happy to send you photos and videos straight from the lumber yard! That way, you can easily review the different options, see the pricing for each option, and read our vision for what the final piece could look like.

2. Dialing in the Details & Legs

Once you’ve fallen in love with the right slab and we have a solid vision for how the final piece will look, we will send over an official online invoice for a 50% down payment. We take Paypal, Credit Cards, Affirm, Klarna and more...

Guess what, now the slab is officially yours & the real fun begins!

Next, we will send you a curated list of matching base/leg options—metal or wooden—that will perfectly complement your design for you to decide! - (already included in the full price, no extra charge!)

Having trouble picturing it?

We totally get it! If you need a little extra help visualizing the final piece, just ask! For a small fee of $50, we can put together a digital concept mockup of your specific table. Just keep in mind that this is a conceptual visualization meant to give you a great, practical feel for the color combinations and overall design, rather than a perfect blueprint.

3. Workshop Magic (The 3-4 Week Wait)

Once the design is locked in, we head back to the shop for the elbow grease —

(work can include: surfacing and flattening the wood, sealing cracks, pouring an epoxy river, filling pores, stripping away any loose bark, carefully detailing every little natural imperfection, sanding and finishing of multiple coats).

A step-by-step collage showing the custom woodworking process, featuring a craftsman removing bark from a raw wood slab, using power tools to surface the wood, pouring black epoxy resin into natural voids, and applying a hand-rubbed finish to a highly figured live-edge burl table.

From the time your down payment is placed to delivery day, the entire process takes about 3 to 4 weeks. Since every custom wood table is handcrafted by the same people who are typing this post right now...means WE CARE, like a lot!

We do usually have a queue of other custom orders we are working through ahead of yours, but we will make sure to keep you updated on your spot in line throughout the whole process. Love is worth the wait!
